ARMAGH   CITY   YOUTH

Trailing  by  two  goals  with five minutes to the final whistle the TMET sponsored

Armagh City Youth U-12  side  produced a marvellous example of team and club spirit last Saturday when they simply refused to accept defeat and scored twice to snatch aremarkable draw! Eight goals were shared between City and Lurgan Town in this highscoring  contest. The momentum from the final minutes should stand the U-12’s in good stead against Portadown Youth in next week’s game.

Elsewhere the City U-13 and U-18 squads continued their unbeaten League runs despite both being away from home, being minus players and also losing players with injuries during the games.  The U-18 team have two home games before they go to Stangmore Park for the Harry Cavan Youth Cup Semi-Final. City’s U-13  side now stand one home game away from  completing  the entire League season  undefeated.  In that fixture they will play last week’s opponents,  Carniny Youth,  in Armagh on a date to be arranged.

The final Armagh City Youth team in the NIBFA CUP,  the U-15  side, did not make it past the last sixteen stage after losing in Warrenpoint and the U-16’s defeat against St. Mary’s has left the team a considerable challenge in endaevouring to retain their

League title.

Also playing St. Mary’s were the City U-14 squad who overcame the testing playing

conditions  to maintain their search for a League title. The squad have  four League

games remaining with Lisnaskea and Lurgan Town at home and both Lisbellaw and

Dromore away.

                           ARMAGH   CITY   YOUTH

The weather continues to cause major disruption to  Youth football with many pitches closed and accordingly only three out of the scheduled  Armagh City Youth games took place last Saturday. The TMET sponsored City U-16 side continued their title chase with a convincing win over  Craigavon City. Two quick goals in the first  fifteen minutes allowed the homeside to settle and play with confidence. At the Mill Field Armagh’s U-13 squad faced Magherafelt in a Cup game. The Leaguechampions had to withstand early  pressure from the visitors but once the City side settled they began to dominate and  progressed comfortably. As a result of this win  the local team have the opportunity to test themselves against  the unbeaten leaders of Division A  when Cliftonville travel to the Mill Field  in the next round. A marvellous tie sees City, the unbeaten winners of Division B, face theircounterparts from Division A  on a date to be decided. This is an ideal chance for the City Youth  team to line up against one of the top sides from the division they will compete in next season. The only team to travel last weekend were the youthful U-11 side who found Dungannon too strong  on the day. Armagh City Youth were delighted to see the U-13 captain, Eoin Toal,  in attendance at Saturday’s  U-13 cup-tie. Eoin is back out of hospital and  recuperating at home after last week’s traumatic events. City Youth sponsor, Chris Traynor of  TMET,  attended the game and at a short presentation before the match he presented Eoin with a new tracksuit  on behalf of the Club and the Sponsors. The fact that he made time to come and  reaffirm his commitment and interest in the work of Armagh City Youth is greatly appreciated  by all.

The U-15 squad are involved in the  feature contest of the day when they travel  to play Warrenpoint in the last sixteen of the  NIBFA  Cup .  City’s other National League side, the U-13 team, go to Carniny to play their penultimate League game determined to maintain their unbeaten League record. Elsewhere there is a double header in Portadown where the U-14 and U-16 squads bothcontinue their quest for League titles against St. Mary’s. The U-12s will face Lurgan Town in Kernan. The Homecare sponsored  Armagh City Youth  U-18 also travel when they  meet Lisburn Rangers in Lisburn. Rangers and Hillsborough Boys, the following week’s opponents, make up the top four in the Mid Ulster Juvenile League along with Armagh and Crumlin. The two upcoming league games are ideal  footballing tests for the City Youth squad before they face Glenavon  111 in the Harry Cavan Youth Cup. The semi-final is to be played on Tuesday  6th March  at 7.30pm at Stangmore Park, Dungannon.

ARMAGH   CITY   YOUTH

A mixed set of results on Saturday last for Armagh City Youth with  two wins, two defeats and a draw  recorded. The top encounter was that between the two Mid Ulster Juvenile League sides,  Armagh City and Lurgan Celtic, who have reached the semi-finals of the Harry Cavan Youth Cup. Despite being away from home the Homecare sponsored City U-18 team took an early lead but then found themselves trailing by the odd goal in three. However, as they have done on a number of occasions this season, the Armagh side continued to press on and were rewarded with a brace of goals to emerge as three-two winners of a high quality game.

City’s TMET sponsored U-14 squad made the long trip to Kesh on Saturday morning and found themselves playing into a very strong wind in the first half.  They managed to keep the home side from scoring in that period and once the City team registered the first goal early in the second half there was only going to be one winner.  The five-nil win  restores the local team to the top of their respective League table.

In the top of the table U-16 contest at Ardmore the home side were two goals to the good but were pegged back by Magherafelt with about a quarter of the game to go. Both sides  then  had spells  when they  dominated the game but neither could  snatch the  winning score.

The TMET sponsored U-15 squad travelled to Derry on Saturday morning to face

Maiden City who are chasing one of the two promotion spots in this division of the

National Youth League. A last minute goal secured the points for the home side and with the resulting kick off  being followed immediately by the final whistle City had no opportunity to seek what would have been a well earned away point.

Also on their travels were the U-12 team who found themselves facing a very capable Windmill Stars side who won comfortably.

                              Results  :   Saturday  4th   February

U-12 :  Armagh  City  0  v  Windmill Stars  5

U-14 :  Armagh  City  5  v  Kesh  0

U-15 :  Armagh  City  2  v  Maiden City  3

U-16 :  Armagh City   2   v   Magherafelt 2

U-18 :  Armagh  City  3   v   Lurgan Celtic  2

Armagh City Youth’s two National Youth League  teams found themselves with mixed fortunes when the draw was made for their respective Cup competitions. The U-13 side have the benefit of a home game against Magherafelt whilst the U-15 squad must travel to play Ballywalter. The U-15 team are travelling again on Saturday the18th February when they go to Warrenpoint in the last sixteen of the NIBFA CUP.

Three Mid-Ulster Youth sides are seeking points away from home with the U-11’s in Dungannon, the U-12’s in Portadown  and the U-14’s facing Lisbellaw. Home advantage at Ardmore however for the U-18’s against Lurgan BB and the U-16 team are also there to face Craigavon City.
