Killymoon Rangers 1-4 Armagh City

Armagh City travelled to Cookstown on Saturday to play the final Irish League Second Division game of the season.

City played into the breeze in the first half and it was Killymoon who were first to attack when Kevin Kelly went through one on one but Sean Morgan was well out to block his shot.  After 12 minutes a back pass to the Killymoon goalkeeper saw Cillian Sheridan put him under pressure but McElhatton raced out and hit the ball so hard that it was heading for the top corner of the City net at the other end.  Sean Morgan got across to turn the ball away and then moved to his left to catch it.  It seemed to most City supporters in the stand that he had kept the ball in play but the assistant referee flagged for a corner which wasn’t properly cleared and when Kelly crossed it back into the middle centre half McMullan was there to head the first goal of the game.

Armagh City 2-3 Dundela

Saturday marked the end of an era as Armagh City played their last home match on grass.

Once the football season is over, the diggers move into Holm Park to convert Bertie Hutchinson’s billiard-like surface to 3G. Unfortunately, however, City were unable to mark their final home game of the season with a win as they slipped to a 3-2 defeat to title-chasing Dundela.

But for much of the game a draw was on the cards and City will feel disappointed that they were unable to take a share of the spoils. The first half was packed full of action with a total of four goals coming to leave the sides level at the break.

Armagh City 2-0 Portstewart

Armagh City confirmed their Belfast Telegraph Championship Two status for next season with this very comfortable 2-0 win over Portstewart on Saturday.

The Holm Park side completely dominated proceedings and should have rattled in several more scores from the numerous chances they created.

Armagh City 2-1 Sport and Leisure Swifts

A powerful first-half performance set the seal on this much-needed Championship Two win for Armagh City at Holm Park on Saturday.

In fact, the local side should have been out of sight at the break after creating numerous chances but only managed to convert once to lead narrowly at the half-way stage.

And, in the second-half, despite doubling their lead, City contrived to make life difficult for themselves and had to withstand a late onslaught from the Swifts. Armagh had an early chance when striker Adam Nesbitt had an effort closed down by excellent Sport and Leisure 'keeper Damien Nugent.

But the big stopper was all at sea on 20 minutes when a flick by Nesbitt completely deceived him but, unfortunately for City, the ball also floated over the crossbar.

City stunned by further penalty misery PDF Print E-mail

PSNI 2-1 Armagh City

For the second consecutive week Armagh City were on the wrong end of a heart-breaking defeat, as last week’s controversial loss was followed up by another injury-time penalty decision that was enough to make the blood boil for players, management and supporters alike.

Marty Rice’s young side fought courageously on a difficult day in Belfast against an experienced PSNI outfit, but in the end key decisions went against them and they left empty-handed.

The game got off to a frenetic, but somewhat scrappy, start as both sides struggled to find a rhythm. When Armagh finally got into their stride they found a hesitant home defence on hand, and indeed it was a rather hopeful ball forward that led to the first chance of the game, as confusion between PSNI ‘keeper Wilson and his defence gave Adam Nesbitt what seemed like an empty net to give City the lead. He had the ball nicked away by Mackle as he went to strike home, however, and from the ensuing corner the ball fell to kindly for Gavin Cusack, but his drive rose agonisingly over the crossbar.

Armagh City 0-1 Ballymoney United

A disputed penalty-kick deep into extra-time sent Armagh City to a sickening defeat against visitors Ballymoney United at Holm Park on Saturday.

The spot-kick in the 94th minute was dispatched in style by Gerard Gillan, giving City 'keeper Sean Morgan no chance. This decisive strike was a bitter pill for City to swallow, especially as they were the more dominant side throughout long periods of the match.

Queen's University 0-1 Armagh City

Armagh City travelled to Belfast on Saturday, but it was the hosts who made the best of the opening exchanges at the newly-refurbished Dun Lane stadium, bossing possession for long spells though without many attempts on goal, until the quarter hour mark.

Queen's winger Conor Mulholland crossed to the near post for the lively James Lavery who turned sharply before having his shot saved smartly by 'keeper John Prentice, making his debut after an injury to Sean Morgan during the week.

The youngster soon had to deal with a variety of aerial threats as a series of corners and free kicks allowed the students to get Matt McManus forward to create problems for the City defence.

Armagh City 1-0 Moyola Park

Armagh City produced a strong performance in Championship Two at Holm Park on Saturday and collected all three points against visitors Moyola Park.

A single goal seperated the sides at the end but, to be fair, the Holm Park outfit controlled the game for long periods and never came under any real pressure from their Castledawson opponents.

Knockbreda 1-0 Armagh City

City fell to a second consecutive defeat for the first time since November, but can count themselves unlucky not to have come away with a point after a spirited performance against high-flying Knockbreda on Saturday.

The game kicked off in glorious sunshine in east Belfast, with City’s lineup boasting the return of Ultan Lennon, and the recently re-signed Shane Mulgrew, who took his place at the heart of the midfield.
