Background

Back in 2000 Armagh City Football Club realised that as a result of the increased pressure on schools and lack of coaching knowledge and opportunities available in Primary and Secondary Schools more and more kids were missing out on the opportunity to enjoy the game of soccer and develop their skills.

The lack of development in the Armagh area had meant that over the years kids had to travel out of the City of Armagh to Portadown/Lurgan/Dungannon/Newry in order to get football with many more being lost to the game altogether. No where in the Armagh area was quality coaching being made available to kids from all sides of the community - regardless of sex or ability - and as a cross community club Armagh City FC felt that it was important that we fill this vacuum and give all children the chance to develop their ability and enjoy the game.

In pursuance of this a Youth Committee was appointed within the club to address this issue, comprising of Aidan Murphy (club Chairman at that time), Nigel Cooke and Geoff Lester (committee members). With assistance from Sean Daly, Gary Cooke and Paul Kelly, training, coaching and competitive teams were established at Under 16, 15 and 12.

City Youth now have 7 youth teams from under 11 to under 18 playing in the Lisburn League, Mid-Ulster League and Irish Youth League. In addition to this we run a successful Mini soccer School on Saturday mornings for 6-10 year olds. This is backed up by under 14 girls team and a very successful Ladies team catering for over 16s.

To ensure that a suitable environment exists in which all young people regardless of sex, religion or ability have the opportunity to develop their skills to the max. of their ability and interest and enable them to play at the highest possible level.

To ensure that the Club becomes the focal point for soccer in the district by combining the provision of quality coaching with excellent playing and spectator facilities.
